Radiesse

“I am a 68 year old woman who looked into having Radiesse treatment because I felt I needed some fullness added to my cheeks, and my facial jowls were becoming more pronounced. Dr. Basuk advised reasonable expectations (a woman of my age is not going to look 20 again): I fully agreed. I’m very happy with the results. My sister and my daughter commented that I had a younger, fresher look. This meant a lot to me, because neither of them knew I had a Radiesse treatment. – C.M.O., West Islip”

Motivated by a desire to be more competitive and youthful in the workplace, and with the increased awareness that nonsurgical approaches can improve skin structure, women and men are developing a strong interest in cosmetic procedures to improve their appearance. Injectable facial fillers offer an excellent option in the treatment of facial aging, wrinkling and contour defects. They are a viable alternative to surgery for patients seeking a safe, minimally invasive and affordable means of maintaining a youthful appearance. Dermal fillers and injectables are now regarded as attractive alternatives to more aggressive and more expensive surgical options.

Radiesse is a filler that may be used to counteract volume loss that occurs with aging. The most important places to fill are the upper and mid cheek. This gives back the youthful “apple of the cheek” that is lost through the aging process. In addition, the lines that radiate from the corner of the mouth down towards the chin can be remedied. Restoring more youthful anatomic features through cheek augmentation not only reduces the shadowing effect that aging exerts in this area but also re-balances mid-face proportions and reduces skin sagging in the nasolabial and chin regions. This approach restores the appearance of the “triangle of beauty” which we lose as we age.

Radiesse (Bioform Medical, San Mateo, CA) is a sterile, synthetic filler composed of calcium hydroxylapatite, which contains microspheres that are identical in composition to the mineral portion found in bone and teeth. No skin testing is necessary because Radiesse does not cause allergies in the body after injection. It was FDA approved in 2006 but has been in use since 2002 and has had an excellent safety and side-effect profile.

Radiesse replenishes volume and stimulates the production of your own collagen. This has been shown in numerous studies to last one year or more. Radiesse consists of smooth particles of calcium and specialized fibers that, after injection, stimulate growth of collagen to create a filled, chemically cross-linked scaffold.

The face is but one visible manifestation of the aging process. As the face matures, so do the hands, which suffer a loss of subcutaneous tissue, delineating the tendons and veins and divulging the person’s true age regardless of facial rejuvenation. Volume loss in the hand can also be successfully treated with Radiesse, and this, too, has been shown to last for months to a year.

Radiesse is superior to some other fillers because it:

  • is a biocompatible product that does not require pre-testing
  • yields a completely natural feel indistinguishable from natural tissue
  • stimulates your natural collagen production
  • provides immediate full-correction results
  • has a long term appearance effect: over 12 months
